This is the perfect seafood soul food! We enjoy it in the winter, but it would be a hit year round. You can use fresh or frozen (thawed) shrimp. Hope you enjoy!

Aunt Nonie’s Shrimp Creole

Course: Main Course

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 cup chopped onion
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 2 green peppers, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic (or tsp) minced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt & Pepper To Taste
  • 1 large can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 small can tomato sauce
  • 1-2 lb shrimp (fresh or thawed, peeled, deveined, no tails)

Equipment

  • Onion Chopper

Method
 

  1. Saute onions, celery, peppers and garlic until tender
  2. Mix in water, flour, chili powder, sugar and salt, simmer a few minutes
  3. Add crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, simmer 15 minutes
  4. Add shrimp and cook until pink (just a few minutes). Serve over rice.
